In addition to the information provided on our website, here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about our self storage facility:
Q: What size storage unit do I need?
A. Rob or Jason will be glad to give you a basic estimate based on the information you provide.
Q. What is the difference between a climate-controlled unit and a drive up?
A. We have both types of units. A drive-up unit means you can drive your car or truck right up to the unit, it is located on the outside of the building and we do NOT monitor the heating and cooling of the unit. A climate controlled unit is located inside the building and we control the heating and cooling of the units. A climate-controlled unit is ideal if you are storing anything that can get damaged (i.e. warped, cracked) through extreme variations of temperature (either seasonally or even daily) Items that would fall into this category would be wooden furniture, paintings, computer/audio/stereo equipment, paper files, etc. In addition, with a climate controlled unit you don’t have to deal with dust or dirt settling on your personal belongings. An additional benefit of a climate controlled unit is if you visit your unit often, the temperature is regulated, so you won’t freeze during winter or overheat during summer during your visit to your unit, but instead be comfortable all year round.
Q. Does TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE have 24-hour surveillance?
A. Yes, we offer 24-hour surveillance. Each of our units is individually alarmed. Each tenant picks a 4-10 digit access code that is unique and matched to their specific unit. When entering the code at the front gate, it not only opens the gate but deactivates the alarm sensor on your unit(s) ONLY. If your code has not been entered into the gate and your unit is opened, or bumped, a silent alarm will be triggered, notifying our office and our round-the-clock security firm. In addition, for those tenants with a climate controlled unit(s), the tenant can access ONLY the hallway containing their unit(s), meaning both you and other tenants are prevented from wandering around unauthorized sections of the facility.
Q. What are your gate access hours?
A. 6am to 9pm seven days a week including holidays. However, we are willing to make exceptions for businesses that clearly have a need for 24-hour access.
Q. What other fees will I be charged with when signing the contract?
A. There is a one time $10.00 administration fee.
Q. Do I have to buy one of your locks or can I provide my own?
A. You can purchase one from us for $10.00 or bring your own lock.
Q: Do I have to sign a long-term contract when I rent a unit?
A. No. All leases are month-to-month. There is a one-month minimum term rental. We do not rent units by the day or week. We only require 10 days notice when you are vacating, so there is no long-term commitment.
Q. Does TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE invoice?
A. No, TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE does not invoice individuals. However, we will send monthly invoices for an additional fee.
Q. Does TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE prorate moving in?
A. Yes, TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE prorates your rent from the day you begin rental of your unit to the last day of the month, which means we do not charge the tenant for the days the tenant does not have use of their rental unit during the first calendar month of their rental period. Tenants will pay from the time they sign the contract through the end of the month. All tenant’s payments will begin thereafter on the 1st of the month. We do NOT prorate moving out.
Q: When is the rent due?
A. Every tenant’s rent is due on the 1st day of each month, regardless of what day of the month you began renting the unit. For example, if you rent on the 13th of the month, we will prorate your rent for that month (beginning on the 13th day of our move-in month) and your next payment will be due on the first of each month thereafter.
Q. How much notice do I need to give when moving out?
A. 10 days. Once everything is out of the unit please call the office and let us know the unit is cleaned and swept. That’s it. When finished moving out, if you don't reach us directly, leave a message with the unit number along with your first and last name. We will call back the next business day to verify the message.
Q. Can I be set up on automatic credit card billing?
A. Absolutely. We draft payments on the first of the month. If the first falls on a day the office is closed we will draft upon the next business day.
Q. What happens to my automatic credit card draft when I move out?
A. The card number is deleted from our system instantly when moving out. For tenants set up on auto billing, please let us know ahead of time so we do not draft your rent.
Q. Does TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE have a trailer I can use?
A. Yes. We offer a high-quality cargo trailer and a high-quality flatbed trailer free of charge for your move-in to our facility, provided the trailer is returned at the end of the day no later than 5pm.
Q. Who can gain access to my unit?
A. Only co-tenants that are given written permission by you on the original contract will be able to gain access. In addition, you can assign them a specific security code that allows you to track their access to the unit.
Q. Can I remove a co-tenant from my contract?
A. Yes.
Q. Does TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE give out information regarding my unit?
A. No.
Q. What happens when I forget my access code?
A. You may either use the kiosk located at the front of the building, or call the office. If a tenant is on site they will be able to use the kiosk to enter personal information and use personal identification to retrieve their access code. If a tenant calls in to the office, they will be asked to verify certain private information that is included in the original contract.
Q. Does TAOS CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE sell packing and/or shipping supplies?
A. NO.
Q: Is there an employee on the property at all times?
A. Typically, there will not be an employee at the property.
Q: Can a large moving truck drive into and around the building?
A. Yes, the facility has extra-wide drive lanes and will accommodate all sizes of moving trucks.
Q: Do you have space for my trailer, boat or car?
A. Yes. You can put any of these items in a non-climate controlled unit if they will fit through the unit door, which are approximately 8 feet wide and 7.5 feet high.
Q: What method of payment do you accept and are there any discounts?
A. We accept Cash, Check, Money Order, Visa, MasterCard and American Express. We offer auto credit card payment free of charge. Please call for prepayment and long-term rental discounts.
Q: Do you provide insurance for my stored items?
A. Insurance is the responsibility of each tenant. We do not provide insurance.
